The first debate among the 20 or so Democrats who've announced their intent to run against President Donald Trump has passed. So we'll kick off a mega-thread to discuss the Election and politics associated with it here.

I can't think of a single candidate in that group I would vote for. Biden is about the closest, and that ain't happening either.

Thing is, if the Dems weren't so busy trying to out crazy each other ever leftward, they'd see Joe has the best shit of beating Trump. He'd turn Pennsylvania back to blue.

For as much flack as Marianne Williamson is getting for her new age nonsense....I don't think her "Beat Trump With Love" slogan isn't any less plausible than the magical free rides that the other 19 are promising....

On a more in-depth note…..I find it hard to believe the unions are going to put their high dollar backing behind any of the “abolish private insurance” candidates…. especially now that the SCOTUS ruling on Janus v AFSME allows employees to leave public unions.  Providing their members with the employer-based benefit of Cadillac insurance coverage is their crowning jewel – and about the only arrow they have left in their quiver.

Also….The few candidates that have spoken up and noted that “socialist” promises need to be toned down in order for anyone to win the general election are not front-runners; some have actually been booed for simply making that observation. But there really are (even dems) that think the socialist shit is getting too deep:

This is the problem…and why the two-party system is failing. As a plurality of the American population now identifies with neither rep or dem, the “base” of each party has mostly extremists remaining. And those extremists are making the party nominations that the middle ground voters are forced to choose from in the general election.

From what I see they are seeing which one can be the most left, not caring that the moderates that are willing to vote Rep. or Dem. Depending on the candidate is who put President Trump in office.

It's like they don't care about the moderates that make the most difference.

Yep. Thing is, the furthest extreme views are the ones that see the loudest. I believe most Americans are far more reasonable than the morons sent to D.C. to represent them.

Then again if that were the case, the morons wouldn't be there in the first place.

Election 2020 is looking like another third party vote for me.

The average voter is more reasonable than the D/R extremists and the article below shows that trend has been growing in the last decade.

I think the power and money of the major parties are making it hard for the more moderate voters to recognize they have other choices than the morons they're sending to DC.....especially in the POTUS election.

The Commission on Presidential Debates is run jointly by the two parties and they take great measures to exclude others. And both parties make sure to drill into voters' heads that third party is "wasted" and would be "taking votes away from" the lesser of the two evils.

I firmly reject this notion. We can't  take  votes from either candidate, as my vote belongs to neither of them. It is just that - my vote. Furthermore, the only way for these parties/candidates to get recognized is to cast votes for them. In previous years, Libertarian candidates needed petitions to get on the ballots in each county; after reaching a threshold in the gubernatorial race last year, they now have automatic inclusion.

Trump is a third party candidate.  While he can be criticized for his style, his beliefs and policies are for the most part the most reasonable out there.  He doesn't cater to the special interests such as the Koch brothers or the Chamber of Commerce.  He doesn't seem to care about exposing the shadow government of unelected bureaucrats.  That is why politicians on both sides of the aisle hate him.  Imagine what he could get done if either party would work with him, or if the media didn't find fault with every single thing, and ignore every single accomplishment.

This cracked me up. Good to see such an authentic candidate and authentic debate moment:

Quote

"But Harris told Biden at the debate, “Vice President Biden, I do not believe you are a racist. I also believe—and it's personal...it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. It was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing.”

She said, “And you know, there was a little girl in California who was a part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. And that little girl was me. So I will tell you that, on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously.”

On Friday morning, Harris’s campaign website was selling a black T-shirt with an imprint of the candidate as a school girl (ranging in price from $29.99 to $32.99). But the move came off to some – including Harris’s followers – as tacky.

“Hmmmm man I was like so about her at the debate tonight and everything felt and seemed so authentic and then I come on here and she already has this t-shirt ready to sell,” wrote an Instagrammer. “This just made me mad uncomfortable. Like I legit just second guessed wanting to vote for her after seeing this lol.”

Bad enough to take someone's words out of context, but this is some next level stuff.

You know, I can't stand either party any more. But up until the last couple days the Democrats look like they were ready to implode as the party struggles between "blue collar" and "batshit crazy socialist". Then Dumbass comes along, spouts off a Tweet, and suddenly the Dems are reunified in their hatred for him.

Good job, Don.

It's so ridiculous anymore I suspect it's intentional.

The only policy the dems have been openly embracing is their hatred of all things Trump, much to their detriment.  This comes off to the average American as hating a better economy, more jobs, more freedom, more security and more importantly, they hate us average Americans.

I think this tweet was brilliant. It didn't so much as unite them, but make them openly admit that as a party they hate America as founded, and that they are anti-Semitic and racist.  This has always been their policy, and the divisions we are seeing is around having these ignorant upstarts show their hand.

Trump may not be the best President ever, but he is the president we needed at this point in time.  I can't imagine where we would be if any"typical" politician were the president, but especially Hillary and her open corruption.

I can see your point, and yeah, WAY better than 8 years of another Clinton era. But there has GOT to be someone better than Trump out there to shake things up while at the same time not acting like a buffoon.

That's not at all how it's being portrayed my friend. Up until this the scuttlebutt was about the division between the likes of AOC and Pelosi. Not hearing about that so much now, except for on conservative talk radio.

And frankly, someone should lock him out of his damned Twitter account. Because I thought the whole string of tweets was moronic and unbecoming the office of president.

And for the record, as much as I can't stand Rep. Omar and how she is shielded from repercussions for the stupid things she says, the whole, "Send her back" chanting is pure crap. I'm not only weary of the constant comparisons to Nazi Germany and the detention centers on the border being compared to concentration camps. I'm also tired of the chest thumping, flag waving MAGA crowd as well.

Because in between those two extremes, there's millions of level headed people who can think and discuss topics rationally. But they don't sell soap.

It's really not funny that it sometimes seems like he says stuuf just for the purpose of riling up the left....or that the left are, in fact, so easily riled.

Just imagine how many issues could be resolved if the whole bunch focused half as much attention on finding solutions instead of an endless back and forth of ranting, screaming and name-calling.

But this did give me a chuckle:

Anyone going to watch the upcoming debate?  As a former debater, I like watching the strategies unfold.  Personally, I think we have too many candidates that don't have any hope of winning the nomination still in...Wonder when they will start dropping out...

It might be fun, in a slow mo train wreck kind of way, to watch how the Kamel and the Bidet go after each other, or even the two septuagenarians on the second night,  But I don't have the stomach for even that.

If you watch, I would love to hear an opinion from other than the MSM who wants to tell us how to think more than just reporting the news.
